Blossm
Introduction
UX Design / UI Design / Summer 2021
Blossm is a flower buying app and the first UX design project I have had the pleasure of working on. The objective of this project is to put our understanding of the UX/UI design basics to use and create an enjoyable user experience. I learned and put to practice all of the fundamentals of UX design, research, and prototyping through the five weeks I worked on this project for.
Tools used: Pencil and paper, Figma, Adobe Photoshop
My role
This is the first project to get myself used to every step in the UX design process, so I completed the roles of lead UX designer and researcher. This means I worked by myself through the entire design process to develop the Blossm app’s user experience.
The users
The key to a good user experience is understanding the users involved. To find the users, I interviewed 5 participants and created user personas to match the main user pain points and goals.
Research
It all begins with empathizing
The competitive audit I conducted gave me many ideas on how I could move forward with creating a flower buying app for all people with the most optimized user experience. I researched what they were doing right and what they could be doing better, this helped me define what aspects to include in my design for a great flower buying user experience.

Persona 1
Persona 2
Sketches, Wireframes, and Mockups.
-
Sketches
I started with sketching each frame out and numbering them by user flow. I tried to keep the size, headers, and footers a consistent size and simplicity.
-
Low Fidelity Wireframes
After sketching out the wireframes on paper I put them together digitally using the tool Figma. Afterwards, I started on a mockup that did not make the final cut due to flaws pointed out to me in the user feedback.
-
High Fidelity Mockups
This high-fidelity mockup became the finalized design after I received feedback from the testing phase in the design process. Some noteworthy changes include all square buttons and images as well as the subtraction of the customizable bouquet feature.
User Testing details
By conducting user testing on the first prototype, I was able to get valuable feedback on the first iterations of the designs. We learned some major pain points through this feedback that would ultimately help me to perfect my design in the finalized version.
Results and outcomes
The results of the user research concluded that the biggest user pain point was how confusing the main user flow became when adding in the step of customizing bouquets. This resulted in getting rid of the option to customize and keeping the user journey simple and straightforward. The second-largest user pain point was the fact that the light green color scheme although visually appealing was not accessible to users with visual impairments, the contrast was too low. This was easily fixed by choosing another color scheme that is accessible for users with visual impairments. The last pain point I recorded was the inconsistency between rounded and sharp edges, I was able to fix this by making all edges the same roundness on the buttons and images.

High fidelity prototype
Overall, this project achieved its goal in helping me to learn and practice the basics of UX design by creating a simple app and user experience. I learned an immense amount research, prototyping, and the design process through creating a project for my UX design certification program. Thank you for your interest in my designs and please check out my other projects! They only get better from here.
